This is an X-ray scan of the spine of our patient Tina, which was taken 6 months ago at UP clinic in Gubei, Shanghai, China. A 14-year-old girl, Tina’s life quality was negatively impacted by scoliosis.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a 3-dimensional malformation of the spine, with the most common type being idiopathic scoliosis. Specifically, the spine curves laterally without any significant vertebral malformation. Juvenile scoliosis is mostly idiopathic and could be caused by multiple factors.
“As a student, I have too much homework and too little time for sports; when I study, I didn’t pay much attention to my posture as well. Recently I began to have lower back pain whenever I sit for too long. My family and friends also told me that my posture looks asymmetrical. I went to the hospital and found out that I have scoliosis, so I come here to seek help from chiropractic doctors and physical therapists. I’m also worrying if I could pass my PE exam at school…”
