Amongst other hobbies such as traveling and reading, Joseph is also an avid fitness enthusiast, which gives him a better understanding of many of the pains his clients have, specifically when the injuries they receive are through sport. As such, he has give numerous presentations on sports rehabilitation and injury prevention, especially in the realm of running.
When we sit down to learn more about him and his background, one of our questions is to ask what advice he has for runners, given how popular of a sport it is, as well as how high the risk is for injury. Joseph’s top five suggestions, along with doing a movement screen [Move Well Before Moving Often] include:
▶▷ 1.Get a pair of good shoes.
▶▷ 2.Do strength exercises for the lower body.
▶▷ 3.Train with a profssional coach.
▶▷ 4.Track the volume.
▶▷ 5. Remember that recovery is just as important as training.
Solid and simple advice!
Over the course of his time at UP, Joseph has seen a lot of diverse cases [案例分享——跟腱断裂,可以有非手术的选择!], but he also sees a lot of cases that are similar in nature:
“Most of my patients who come in have chronic pain, postural dysfunction, have undergone orthopedic surgery or are related to sports injuries.”
Along with helping others heal through physical therapy, he says when it is just you taking care of yourself, it really comes down to the basics:
▶▷ 1. Rest
▶▷ 2. Sleep
▶▷ 3. Drink water
▶▷ 4. Eat proper food
Of course, for each specific-type of case he adds, there will always be more specific suggestions.Take those who suffer from back [Include link to low back pain article] or neck pain. Along with his suggestions for a healthy lifestyle, Joseph adds that it’s important to live an active lifestyle and when possible, move the body every 15-20 minutes. In other words, don’t sit all day, every day.
While his suggestions seem simple and easy-to-do, most of us can probably relate it’s not as easy to maintain those ‘four pillars of health’ as we would like, but it’s always a good reminder to have! Thank you to PT Joseph for his time and reminders to do the simple things ‘savagely well’.
